MELAKA: An entrepreneur hub will be developed at traditional village Kampung Morten here, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the Morten Walk Entrepreneur Hub in Kampung Morten, scheduled to start its operation by October, will have 100 rental spaces for local entrepreneurs.

Wan Junaidi said the development of the hub was hoped to create a supply chain or entrepreneurial ecosystem in the area.

"I want to see local entrepreneurs seize this opportunity and do business in attractive and conducive place in an effort to improve their respective businesses," he told reporters after the groundbreaking for the entrepreneur hub today.

Also present was UDA Holdings Bhd (UDA) chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.

Wan Junaidi said the RM8 million Morten Walk Entrepreneur Hub project would be developed by UDA on 1.67 hectares land.

More interestingly, the hub is located in the heart of Melaka which is close to major attractions such as Kampung Morten Traditional Village, Kampung Morten Bridge, Melaka River Cruise and Menara Taming Sari, he added.

He said the hub would also be a platform to market the local small and medium enterprise (SME) products and assist potential entrepreneurs under the ministry's agencies such as TEKUN Nasional, National Entrepreneurship Institute (INSKEN) and Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission.
